Vietnam has one of the fastest-growing English-learning populations in the world and a young, phone-first internet culture, which together make it one of the quickest-rising sources of traffic on the platform. Vietnamese is tonal, so voice practice is worth far more here than text ever could be.

People here tend to end up talking about study and career, food, football and practising English out loud - not because anyone plans it, but because those are the subjects a stranger can pick up without context. If you want to steer somewhere else, just ask a question; on a voice call it is far easier to change the subject than it is in text.

The best time to find someone in Vietnam

Vietnam runs on UTC+7 (ICT), and its users are most active around 9pm – 1am ICT. If you are matching from another continent, that window is what to aim for - outside it you will still connect, just to a smaller pool and often to Vietnameses living abroad rather than at home.

That last point is worth knowing: the Vietnamese community outside Vietnam is large, so filtering to Vietnam finds people in the country while simply speaking Vietnamese finds them everywhere.
