Mandarin has more first-language speakers than any other language on earth, and demand from learners is enormous - a Mandarin match is one of the most valuable things a language learner can get. Chinese users on international platforms are typically here specifically for English practice and arrive better prepared than almost anyone, often with topics ready.

People here tend to end up talking about study and work, travel, food and trading language practice both ways - not because anyone plans it, but because those are the subjects a stranger can pick up without context. If you want to steer somewhere else, just ask a question; on a voice call it is far easier to change the subject than it is in text.

The best time to find someone in China

China runs on UTC+8 (CST), and its users are most active around 9pm – 1am CST. If you are matching from another continent, that window is what to aim for - outside it you will still connect, just to a smaller pool and often to Chineses living abroad rather than at home.

That last point is worth knowing: the Chinese community outside China is large, so filtering to China finds people in the country while simply speaking Mandarin finds them everywhere.
