Thailand combines a large domestic Thai-speaking user base with an unusually large population of foreigners living there long-term, so matches inside the country split between Thai and English more evenly than in most of Southeast Asia. Thai is tonal and notoriously hard to type, which pushes people toward voice.

People here tend to end up talking about food and travel, music, work and visas and language practice - not because anyone plans it, but because those are the subjects a stranger can pick up without context. If you want to steer somewhere else, just ask a question; on a voice call it is far easier to change the subject than it is in text.

Thailand runs on UTC+7 (ICT), and its users are most active around 9pm – 1am ICT. If you are matching from another continent, that window is what to aim for - outside it you will still connect, just to a smaller pool and often to Thais living abroad rather than at home.
